A
Message from the President of the Returned and Services League (RSL),
Major General William J Crews AO (Retd)
Following the launch of the Sands of Gallipoli collections by
the Returned & Services League of Australia in 2004, all Australians
are now able to own authentic sand from ANZAC Cove.
Purchasing an item from the collections of lapel pins, key rings,
medallions, wall plaques and proof limited edition medallions
each containing grains of authentic sand collected from ANZAC
Cove, could be the only opportunity for Australians to own a precious
piece of preserved ANZAC history.
The collections remind us of the bravery, determination and sacrifices
of Australian service men and women, and they celebrate the Australian
spirit shown by those who fought on the sands of Gallipoli and
all those who have followed.
These were ordinary people who gave extraordinary service. We
can never forget the sacrifices they made. These items provide
a lasting reminder of battles lost and honour won.
Every year, young and old make the trip to visit Gallipoli on
ANZAC day for the dawn service. It's one of the most inspiring,
thought-provoking, memorable journeys any Australian can make.
For many people who've been there and for those who can't make
the journey, this collection is something we can all treasure
and pass down through the generations.
Sales of the Sands of Gallipoli collection will assist the Returned
& Services League of Australia to continue its vital work
caring for the veteran, ex-service and service community. To date
more than $500,000 has been generated.
